How to Choose a Southwest Business Card

When you’re trying to earn a Southwest Companion Pass to get free flights for up to two years and there’s not a Companion Pass in one card shortcut, most people consider getting a Southwest business card.

But how do you decide which Southwest business card is right for you? Keep reading to learn how to choose a Southwest business card.

If you have a business, there are two Southwest business credit cards you can get: the Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Card.

Looking for a personal Southwest Airlines credit card so you can earn a Southwest Companion Pass with one card? Read how to decide which Southwest card to get.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card

The Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business card is the best card if you fly on Southwest for work. You get more perks and earn more points with this card.

You can earn a 100,000 point signup bonus on the Southwest Performance Business Card. You can earn 70,000 points when you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months. You’ll earn an additional 30,000 points when you spend a total of $25,000 in the first six months.

As a frequent Southwest flyer, you’ll love the 4 upgraded boarding passes – guaranteed A1 to A15 boarding position.

Pro-tip: This card doesn’t offer airport lounge access. But there are many cards that give you free airport lounge access with your credit card.

The 365 inflight wi-fi credits of $8 each every year will keep you connected while flying so you can get work done and arrive at your destination ready.

Another perk of this card is a $100 Global Entry or $85 TSA PreCheck credit. You can avoid taking off your shoes and removing your laptop and liquids.

If you travel outside the United States for work, you can use this card in other countries because there are no foreign transaction fees.

You earn 3 points for every $1 spent on Southwest purchases and on Southwest hotel and car rental partners.

When you use your card to pay for internet, cable, phone, social media, and search engine ads, you’ll earn 2 points for every $1. And you earn 1 point for every $1 spent on everything else.

Each year upon card renewal and payment of the $199 annual fee, you get 9,000 bonus points.

Pro-tip: The credit card signup bonus and yearly bonus points count towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Card

If you don’t use in-flight Wi-Fi, fly Southwest occasionally for work, and want a way to earn Southwest points on business expenses, you should get the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business card.

You can earn 60,000 points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months you have the Southwest Premier Business Card.

When using this card for Southwest purchases and at Southwest hotel and car rental partners, you get 2 points for every $1 spent. You earn 1 point for every $1 spent on everything else.

Because this card has no foreign transaction fees so you can use it when you travel internationally.

Every year you renew your card and pay the $99 annual fee, you get 6,000 Companion Pass qualifying points.

Conclusion

Choosing the right card for your business can be confusing especially when there are two Southwest business cards to pick. Both cards offer great perks and benefits for business travelers.

If you fly on Southwest often, and covet an A-1 to A-15 boarding position, use the inflight Wi-Fi, and want to earn the most points on business expenses, the Southwest Performance Business card is right for you.

When your flights are too short to use Wi-Fi or you rarely use it while flying and want to earn Southwest points with a lower annual fee, then get the Southwest Premier Business card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for beginning travel hackers. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points (after spending $4,000 in the first three months).

My favorite perks about this card are earning 2X points on travel and dining, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of $200 (after spending $500 in the first three months).

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back at grocery stores the first 12 months (up to $12k), unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can use your points to travel for free.
