When purchasing hotel points, here’s what card to use.
Use whatever card you need to meet the minimum spending requirements to earn your signup bonus.
Because buying points doesn’t code as a travel purchase, it doesn’t make sense to pay with cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve. Because you won’t earn a travel category bonus.
If you have the IHG Rewards Club Premier or the IHG Rewards Club Traveler card, both offer a 20% discount when you buy points. But you can’t combine it with discounts. 😢
You could earn 3x points buying IHG points with your Ink Business Preferred.
Consider using a card that earns perks for spending such as the World of Hyatt card. You earn 2 elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 you spend. You also earn a free Category 1 to 4 night after spending $15,000 a year.
Or the Hilton Aspire card because all spending through December 31, 2021, counts as base points towards lifetime Diamond status.
